Kinds of Batik

Batik is Indonesian identity which has high value. Nowadays, Batik has been already famous until overseas. It also becomes fashion in Indonesia. Many groups of citizen use Batik for their own fashion because there are so many kinds of Batik that have their own characters. Some of them are Batik Yogyakarta, Batik Solo, and Batik Malang.

First, Yogyakarta has 400 kinds of batik. All of the motif are full of philosophies. They are Parang motif, Geometri, Banji, Tumbuhan Menjalar, Tumbuhan Air, Bunga, Fauna motif, etc. It has dominant color of nature and tend to be dark. The decorative colors in batik Jogja are generally white, navy blue and black.

Second, there is Batik Solo that gives an aura of stately and elegant impression. It is famous with traditional style and pattern, both in the stamp or written. This Batik has many motif, they are Sido Asih, Ratu Ratih, Parang Kusuma, Bokor Kencana, and Sekar Jagar. Soga color (brown) is characteristic motif of Batik Solo.

The last, we have Batik Malang that already existed before the 1900s. Batik Malang motif has evolved and has become part of the ceremonial activities and clothing. Ornament motifs of Batik Malang including Modhang Koro, Sawat Bunga Pring, Dele Kecer, Kembang Manggar, Ceplok , and Sido Mukti motif. Batik Malang motif is currently not as good as Batik Yogyakarta or Batik Solo.

Indonesia has many kinds of batik. Not only Batik Yogyakarta, Solo, and Malang but also in ever district of Indonesia have Batik. They have their own Batik to show their own characteristic. As Indonesian people, we must be proud with this heritage. So, we must keep on this heritage as our Indonesian identity.
